The Wedding Costumes Around the World
Marriage is an important milestone of life regardless of country. It is the mark of entering a new chapter of life with the change of roles and responsibilities. Therefore, people always take the day of getting married as their “Big Day,” also known as the wedding day. When discussing weddings, you may first associate with the wedding traditions and dresses, which is exactly what I want to share today! I can’t wait to share some unique wedding costumes worldwide with you.
The Western Wedding Dresses – The Emphasizes on Elegance and Sophistication
In most Western countries, like Europe, America, and Australia, wedding dresses are always white or ivory. White and ivory represented purity and innocence, symbolizing women’s chastity and role transition. However, despite these nations all utilizing white or ivory as the primary hue for wedding dresses, the fabrics, styles, and highlights vary. For instance, American wedding gowns always have an A-line dress design and are decorated with beading or embroidery, which gives them a sense of classic. European wedding dresses emphasize the feeling of sophistication and elegance. Thus, the fabrics used include lightweight cotton or silk with the decoration of detailed patterns in floral designs or geometric shapes. Alongside the use of European lace, the wedding dresses are in a sense of ageless; Australian wedding dresses, a totally different style. Its bohemian aesthetic is entirely distinct from the styles of the previous two nations. A playful yet romantic atmosphere is produced by decorating lightweight fabrics like lace or chiffon with complex designs, decorations, or embroidery.
The Eastern Wedding Dresses – The Emphasizes of Luck and Joyfulness
Unlike most Western countries, most Eastern countries use “Red” as the wedding dress color because it symbolizes luck and happiness. Yet, the wedding dress designs are entirely different between countries. Brides in India wear a “Lehenga,” which is made up of three pieces: a top, a skirt, and a dupatta. The top is called choli, a cropped blouse top. The skirt, Lehenga, is also the outfit’s highlight. The skirt is made from a long fabric in lightweight silk or cotton and turned into a skirt by draping around the body. It is always decorated with intricate embroidery and embellishments, such as sequins, beads, and stones. Therefore, the more complicated the decoration, the higher your family’s social status. Yet, the heavier the dress you wear. The dupatta, the multipurpose scarf drapes over the head or shoulders; Vietnamese brides wear “Ao Dai,” which consists of two parts: the Ao Dai and the pants. Ao Dai is a top split from the waist into two flowing pieces split, and it is always made with silk in a high collar and long sleeves design. People must therefore wear pants underneath their Ao Dai. Similar to some Western wedding dress designs, it always includes embroidery, beading, and lace details to add a sense of glamor and sophistication.
